VOLUSIA COUNTY, Fla. — A 2-year-old boy was attacked and dragged off by an alligator Tuesday night at Disney’s Grand Floridian Resort & Spa, one of the youngest victims in Florida since 1997.

On March 21, 1997, 3-year-old Adam Binford was swimming at Lake Ashby in Volusia County when he was attacked by an 11-foot alligator.

His mother told authorities that Binford and his dog were playing next to the lake right before the attack.

She heard a loud splash and then the boy was gone, she said.

Binford’s body was found a day later about a mile from the attack site, next to a 400-pound male alligator caught by a trapper.

Curtis Lucas was the trapper who caught the gator, and found Binford.

“That’s probably the only alligator I wanted dead,” he said at the time.

Lucas, a husband and father of five, wished he’d never made the discovery.

“I don’t talk about that day,” he said.
