Teen accused of beheading classmate charged with first-degree murder

LAWRENCE, Mass. — The teenager accused of killing and beheading his classmate in Lawrence was expected to appear in court Friday.

Matthew Borges, 16, of Lawrence, is charged with first-degree murder in the 2016 death of Lee Manuel Viloria-Paulino.

Borges' trial is set to begin in November.

Borges is accused of stabbing and decapitating Viloria-Paulino. The victim's body was found on a riverbank near Water Street in December 2016.

Investigators say Mathew told them he left Lee there at 7 p.m. that evening and Lee wasn't seen again until his decapitated body was found along the river on Dec. 1.

In Friday's court date, the judge is expected to discuss the motions in the case.
