State police investigating wrong-way driver on Route 3 in Plymouth

PLYMOUTH, Mass. — Massachusetts State Police are investigating a wrong-way driver on Route 3 in Plymouth Thursday morning, Trooper James DeAngelis told Boston 25 News.

DeAngelis said state police received multiple 911 calls around 10:30 a.m. for a wrong-way driver.

According to DeAngelis, troopers located a silver Nissan Altima, with a 78-year-old woman behind the wheel, stopped in the median near exit 7.

Multiple people posted on Facebook about witnessing the driver going north in the southbound lanes.

"I had just pulled out in the passing lane and there she was," one woman wrote. "Thank God I could veer back into the right lane. My life flashed before my eyes."

Another woman wrote, "She almost hit me head on in between exit 7 and 6. It was very, very scary."

DeAngelis said the car didn't collide with any other vehicles.

He added the driver was taken by ambulance to an area hospital for unknown reasons.

It's unclear for how long the driver was going the wrong way.
