Red Sox fans asked to bring socks for homeless to game

BOSTON (MyFoxBoston.com) -- For the 10th Annual "Sox for Socks" Drive, Red Sox fans are asked to bring socks to a ball game to benefit Boston Healthcare for the Homeless.

The Red Sox and Red Sox Foundation are asking fans to bring new, white athletic socks to the Fenway Park gate before and during games this Friday, May 22 through Sunday, May 24. The socks will go to the Boston Health Care for the Homeless Program, which aims to care for homeless adults and children in the Boston area. Doctors will give the socks out to their patients as they care for them on the streets and in shelters.

The organization says socks are a staple of homeless health care and wants to raise awareness about how rain-soaked feet, shoes that don't fit and a lot of time spent standing wears down those who do not have a home.

This fundraiser has taken in over 100,000 pairs of socks over the last several years.
