Police searching for suspect after puppy thrown from moving car in Lowell

LOWELL, Mass. (MyFoxBoston.com) - The Animal Rescue League is looking for help identifying the man who threw a 10-week-old puppy out of a moving car in Lowell.

According to the Animal Rescue League of Boston, the 4-pound Yorkshire Terrier named Austin was thrown out the driver's window by a man near the Tsongas Arena Monday afternoon.

"We encourage anyone who might recognize this little puppy to come forward," Lt. Alan Borgal, director of the ARL's law enforcement team, said.  "Letting authorities know about your concerns will not only help find the person who did this to Austin, but also prevent cruelty against other animals in the future."

The ARL says two witnesses who were driving behind the suspect pulled over to help the pint-sized puppy and contacted Lowell police.

"When he arrived at the animal hospital, sweet little Austin was clearly shaken up from the incident," Lowell police animal control officer Darlene Wood said.

"He had bleeding on the left side of his jaw and neck, and could not stop drooling and crying.  He was clearly in a lot of pain."

After an x-ray and other tests vets discovered that Austin only suffered superficial wounds.

Lowell police are investigating and are trying to find any video footage from the area.

Anyone with information should contact the ARL's law enforcement team at (617) 226-5610.
