“I think it’s pretty wild there was a shooting at 3 in the afternoon," Aidan Phipps, a witness who heard the gunshots from his apartment, said. "It’s kind of nuts.”

Both men were transported to local hospitals following the shooting to be treated for life-threatening injuries.

In a press conference around 6 p.m. Friday night, Boston Police Commissioner William Gross confirmed one person had died from their injuries, marking the fourth homicide in the city so far in 2019.

Police said the two men were involved in a verbal encounter before the incident that led to the fatal shooting.

“These two males were involved in some kind of dispute that erupted in the gunfire," Gross said.

A client of Roesanna Rivera was in an Uber heading to a hairdressing appointment when the window of the SUV she was in was hit, shattering glass.

“All of a sudden they happened to go by and the shooting started," Rivera said.

The client was not hurt, but was very shaken as polcie swarmed the neighborhood.

The incident left new Suffolk County District Attorney Rachael Rollins outraged, with the violence all happening in broad daylight with children in the area.

"This happened at 3:30 in the afternoon," Rollins said. "There were children here. This is a neighborhood. This is a community. People deserve to be safe here.”

Gross had similar thoughts, making a plea to people that they can help make the streets safe.

"We're tired of this in Boston," Gross said. "So, let's work together. We make the neighborhood safe."

Sky25 was over the scene as multiple cruisers converged on Washington Street, with yellow tape filling the street.

Police said the investigation into the incident is ongoing and ask anyone who witnessed the shooting to please come forward.

A previous version of this story listed the location of the shooting as Roxbury. Boston Police later confirmed the incident happened in the Jamaica Plain area of Boston, rather than Roxbury.i
