Police investigating reported kidnapping, sexual assault of 12-year-old

WEBSTER, Mass. — Police in Webster are investigating after a 12-year-old girl reported being kidnapped and sexually assaulted by a man.

At around 4:45 p.m. on Friday, the girl and her parents went to Webster Police to report she had been kidnapped from the May Street Park in Webster at around 3:30 p.m. and taken to a nearby town where she says she was sexually assaulted.

According to police, the alleged assault may have happened across state lines in Connecticut.

The girl described the man as white, 5'10" and "scruffy". She described his car as a small black sedan with two doors.

"I think it's absolutely horrible, it’s absolutely heartbreaking, it’s scary," said Hanna Wilhelm, a local mother, who takes her son to the May Street Park. "It's scary for the people that live in the area, it's scary for people who use the park on a daily basis."

A few kids who were at the May Street Park around the same time Friday say they noticed a black car lingering in the neighborhood.

"It kept going by multiple times," said Lily Starr. "Like every five or 10 minutes, it would come right back again."

Detectives from the Webster Police department, along with the Connecticut State Police are working together in the investigation into the allegations.

Due to the sensitive nature of the investigation and the fact that it is ongoing, no further details have been released. It is currently unclear how the girl was reunited with her family following the incident.

"I pray that they can do whatever they can to locate this man, not only for all of us but for the parents of this child," Wilhelm said.
