Police: Two dead in Winthrop crash, driver to be charged with OUI

WINTHROP, Mass. — Two people are dead following a serious car crash in Winthrop, according to State Police.

In a release, police said the crash happened at around 3 p.m. on Sunday in the area of Winthrop Shore and Neptune Avenue.

At the scene, officers found a coupe convertible, a 2007 Mitsubishi Eclipse, driven by a 30-year-old Winthrop man, struck a parked, unoccupied 2013 Dodge Ram pickup.

The two passengers of the Mitsubishi, a 28-year-old Winthrop woman and a 29-year-old Beverly woman died as a result of the crash. The Winthrop woman was transported to Massachusetts General Hospital, but later died from her injuries.

The Beverly woman was pronounced dead at the scene.

The driver was also transported to Massachusetts General Hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

Winthrop Shore Drive at Neptune Avenue in Winthrop was closed in all directions during the crash investigation and reconstruction. All lanes were re-opened just before 7:00 p.m.

The driver will be facing OUI charges, including additional charges related to the deaths of the two passengers.

Neither the driver nor the passengers have been identified at this time.
