Police arrest man accused of 'violent' sexual assault in Lowell

LOWELL, Mass. (AP / MyFoxBoston.com) - Police have arrested a man in connection to the sexual assault of an 18-year-old woman in Lowell over the weekend.

Kevin Suarez, a 31-year-old from Methuen, was charged with assault with intent to rape.

Police say the victim was walking toward the intersection of Middlesex and Branch streets in Lowell early Sunday morning when a man grabbed her from behind.

Police say he followed the woman, then dragged her down an alley where he repeatedly assaulted her before a passerby interrupted the attack.

The woman was taken to Lowell General Hospital. Her condition is unknown.

Suarez, who did not show his face in court, is charged with aggravated assault with intent to rape.
