Two people were killed in an overnight crash in Saugus.
State Police said around 3:30 a.m. on Saturday, a wrong-way driver was going south on the northbound side of Route 1 in the area of Sonic restaurant in Peabody. Moments later, the vehicle crashed into another car head-on near the Army Barracks store in Saugus.
Troopers rushed to the scene to find the wrong-way driver killed inside the car that caught fire. He was identified as 29-year-old Luis Gallego of Lynn.
Two adults -- a 51-year-old Peabody man and a woman -- who were in the car that was struck suffered serious injuries and were transported to local hospitals. The woman died at Melrose-Wakefield Hospital, while the man was sent to Mass. General.
Route 1 northbound was completely shut down on Saturday morning after the crash and reopened shortly before 7 a.m., according to officials.

State Police had set up a detour at Walnut Street and State Police along with firefighters and first responders were on scene.

The crash is under investigation.
