Performer at after-hours party shot and killed in Holyoke

HOLYOKE, Mass. — A man has been shot and killed in downtown Holyoke.

Police said the man was shot outside of a party in a vacant commercial building on Maple Street at about 1:30 Sunday morning.

The Boston Globe reported that the man had just finished performing at the after-hours party, when he was shot once in the upper chest. Police described the victim as a young man and a rapper with roots in the city.

Investigators said that after being shot, the man ran up to the second floor of the building where the event was happening. He collapsed in the crown and was later declared dead.

The two story building has vacant store fronts on the first floor and mostly empty offices on the second.

No arrests had been made.
