Hanson woman arrested after stabbings outside Sharon hotel

SHARON, Mass. — A 34-year-old Hanson woman is accused of going on a rampage with a machete at a Best Western in Sharon. Police say five people were transported from the hotel to two different hospitals early Sunday morning.

Chaos erupted in the hotel's parking lot and kept some hotel guests from accessing their cars for much of the morning because it was part of the crime scene.

"There was cops all over and crime scene tape everywhere," one hotel guest said.

Witnesses say a car crash and a violent machete attack in the overnight hours Sunday happened moments after a large group of people returned from a wedding.

"They came back from the wedding, [and] crashed the car into another car," one hotel guest said.

Police say the woman accused of the violent outburst was arrested and five people were transported to area hospitals.  On Monday, police said three were treated and released while two men with serious injuries remain hospitalized.

Those who didn't wake up during the commotion were greeted by a sprawling scene in the morning.

"When we came, we wanted to take the car to the Patriots training camp," said Vignesh Srinivas, a hotel guest. "They said we couldn't take the car because there was blood all over the car."

Srinivas and his dad had to take an Uber to training camp. The pair traveled from North Carolina to attend.

"We were wondering what was going on because nobody was telling us anything," Srinivas said.

Sharon Police say the incident appears to be isolated and there is no threat to the public.

Police have identified the woman as 34-year-old Allison Maitland of Hanson. She is charged with two counts of assault and battery with a dangerous weapon (serious injury) and one count of assault and battery with a dangerous weapon.

Maitland is set to be arraigned in Stoughton District Court on Monday.

The investigation is ongoing.
