Man faces charges after weapons cache found in home

WARREN, Mass. — A Warren man is facing charges after police seized a stockpile of guns and weapons from his home, all unlicensed.

Police found the weapons during a search of 45-year-old Daniel Peristere. In total, there were more than 100 unlicensed weapons, including assault rifles and several thousand rounds of ammo.

However, Warren Police said they don't believe Peristere had any intention of harming anyone. In the past, he had threatened someone when he was intoxicated, according to court record. The search was conducted after a family member contact police , concerned over a recent comment Peristere made.

He had been notified to surrender the weapons, because within the last few years he's had several OUI. His longtime girlfriend, Patricia Girard, said it's all an innocent mistake.

"I don't even think he opens half of his mail, so he probably didn't even know," she said.

In Massachusetts, OUIs are grounds for losing a gun license. His family said he was licensed to have the weapons at one time.

In court Wednesday, Peristere's lawyer said he's a collector and has been collecting since he was 16.

He's been charged with multiple counts of possession of firearms and ammunition without a license and having unsecured firearms in his residence.
