BOSTON (MyFoxBoston.com) -- A man was arraigned Wednesday after he was arrested in connection to a shooting that wounded one person in a convenience store Tuesday.
The shooting was part of a robbery, according to police. At around 7:30 p.m., a masked man entered the D & D Convenience Store at 1002 Dorchester Ave., showed a gun and demanded money. The man then walked around to the register, grabbed money, and shot the 46-year-old store clerk, who was behind the cash register, in the abdomen.
"The evidence suggests that the gunman shot the clerk even after taking the money," Suffolk County District Attorney Daniel Conley said.
That victim was taken to Boston Medical Center to be treated for non-life threatening injuries.
Based on a description of the suspect that another store employee gave police, officers broadcast that description, searched the area and arrested 21-year-old Jarris Charley, of Boston, on Savin Hill Avenue.
He was arraigned Wednesday on charges of armed robbery, assault with intent to murder, and unlawful possession of a firearm. A judge ordered him held on $100,000 bail. If he makes bail, Charley will have to wear a GPS tracking device, stay away from the convenience store and stay confined to his home with the exception of going to work.
Charley also had his bail revoked on a separate open case where he has been charged with assault and battery and destruction of property.
Neighbors say the victim is part of the hardworking family who owns the business.
Earlier Tuesday evening in Dorchester, a man was shot across from the Lower Mills branch of the Boston Public Library, which was also a polling place. That man was taken to Boston Medical Center with injuries considered life-threatening. Read more on that incident
