Man accused of killing ex-girlfriend to remain in hospital, judge rules

The man accused of murdering his ex-girlfriend inside a popular Worcester restaurant will remain at Bridgewater State Hospital for at least six more months, a judge ruled.

Carlos Asencio was deemed incompetent to stand trial back in July. Now, a judge has ruled that Asencio can continue his psychiatric evaluation at Bridgewater State Hospital until February 2020.

Asencio is accused of stabbing Amanda Dabrowski to death while she was at a book club meeting at O'Connor's Restaurant on July 3. Dabrowski's parents say, after the judge's recent ruling, that they feel their lives have been put on hold.

After the stabbing, police charged Asencio with murder; assault and battery with a dangerous weapon; armed assault with intent to murder; disorderly conduct; disturbing the peace; resisting arrest; and an outstanding warrant.
