Man accused of driving 60 mph over the speed limit while naked

A man was arrested after allegedly driving 105 mph in a 45 construction zone on I-91 in Whately.

A trooper was on patrol on I-91 when the barracks said they had received a report of a black pickup truck driving erratically and at a high rate of speed.

The trooper shortly later saw the truck, a 2005 Ford pickup, allegedly try to change lanes without signaling, nearly causing a collision.

The truck then accelerated up to 105 mph in a 45 mph zone, said state police.

The trooper pulled the truck over, and when he walked up to the driver, police said he noticed the man, Alexander Shanwenda, 24 of Chicopee, wasn't wearing any clothes. He had a pair of work pants placed over his lap. Then, the trooper noticed a smell of alcohol and saw an empty bottle in the bed of the truck, said police.

The 24-year-old man was arrested after failing several sobriety tests. He's facing charges for:

  • Operating under the influence of liquor;
  • Operating to endanger;
  • Marked lanes violation; and
  • Speeding in a Construction Zone.

Shanwenda will be arraigned on the charges in the Holyoke District Court.
