Trump indictment has people locally speaking out

BOSTON — People are reacting to the indictment of the former President. Some small gatherings turned up outside the State House. State Republican party leaders are also calling on people to voice their opinions peacefully.

Laurie Woodward Garcia organized a small group of people outside the State House after getting wind of the Trump indictment.

“As Americans we expect our leaders to hold the highest of standards. We expect transparency and honesty and a lot of people in America have given up on that but I can tell you a lot of Americans haven’t,” said Garcia.

Woodward, who actively campaigned for Democrats when she lived in Florida, says is still waiting for details about the charges against Trump but she believes the Grand Jury found enough for this to go to court.

“Donald Trump is innocent until proven guilty but we have to allow him the opportunity to face the charges,” said Woodward Garcia.

Bob Hartwell set up across the street from Woodward’s rally showing his support for Trump.

“It doesn’t make any sense why they keep going after the guy,” said Hartwell. “Everybody does not like what is happening. It is just wrong.”

Amy Carnevale is the new chair for the Massachusetts Republican party.

“I absolutely think it is appropriate for people in the Commonwealth and Republicans to express their views but should be done in a peaceful way and I think it will be,” said Carnevale.

Carnevale is calling on the party as a whole to think about winning local races instead of growing more divided.

“I think the indictment further polarizes are political dialogue in America and here in MA and it continues that divide,” said Carnevale. “I think in order to build the party we need to reach out to independents and more moderate republicans and bring them back into the tent.”

The Congressional delegation in Massachusetts, which is made up of all Democrats, shared the same message about letting the justice system do its work.

There was a police presence but there were no incidents involving the two sides voicing their opinions.
