The top high schools in Massachusetts, according to U.S. News and World Report

BOSTON — Massachusetts schools fare very well in the latest ranking of top high schools in the United States from U.S. News and World Report.

The list, released Tuesday, shows some 340 schools in Massachusetts made the rankings.

Coming in at #1 was Boston Latin School, followed by Advanced Math and Science Academy Charter School in Marlborough.

Rounding out the top five are Sturgis Charter Public School in Hyannis, Lexington High School in Lexington, and the John D. O’Bryant School of Math and Science in Roxbury.

U.S. News and World Report says its rankings are based on six factors: college readiness, reading and math proficiency, reading and math performance, underserved student performance, college curriculum breadth, and graduation rates.

Massachusetts had the highest percentage of top-ranked high schools in this year’s rankings.

U.S. News and World Report said it did adjust its calculations this year, due to the effects of the pandemic.

“While the six ranking indicators that determined each school’s rank were the same as those used in the three prior years, U.S. News adjusted its calculation of these measures to account for the impact the COVID-19 pandemic had on schools in the 2019-2020 school year. With most states closing schools for in-person instruction beginning in March 2020 – typically just before most states conduct assessments – the U.S. Department of Education granted waivers allowing all states to forego state testing for the 2019-2020 school year,” according to the U.S. News and World report statement.
