Suspect accused of Haverhill murder dies at Beverly hospital while in custody

BEVERLY, Mass. — A suspect, accused of stabbing a Haverhill man to death at his home in November, has died at Beverly Hospital while in custody.

The Essex County Sheriff’s Department confirmed Tuesday morning that suspect David Trongeau died last Wednesday, July 28, after he was taken to Beverly Hospital from the Middleton House of Correction.

The department’s spokesperson Gretchen Grosky told Boston 25 that there are no further details to release at this time regarding his death or what led up to it.

There is a hearing scheduled in Trongeau’s case for Wednesday at 10:30 a.m. in Salem Superior Court, according to court records.

Trongeau was only one out of three men facing charges in the death of Jose Vasquez, 26, of Haverhill on Nov. 21. Trongeau was arrested two days after police say he stabbed Vasquez to death in the inner-city Mount Washington neighborhood where he lived, police say.

This is a developing story. Check back for updates as more information becomes available.
