One dead, one seriously injured after car crashes into tree in Boston

BOSTON — Police have identified the 71-year-old woman who was killed in a crash while being transported in a medical van in Boston.

Rosa Canenguez of Somerville was riding in a van, secured in a wheelchair at the time of the crash.

According to State police, around 3:40 p.m. a 2012 Dodge Grand Caravan was traveling northbound on the Riverway. Upon reaching the intersection with Longwood Avenue, the van crossed the double yellow lines and both southbound lanes, exited the roadway, and struck a large tree.

Canenguex was transported to the hospital where she was pronounced dead, MSP say.

The driver of the van, a 39-year-old Methuen man, suffered non-life threatening injuries and is in stable condition at a Boston hospital.

The registered owner of the van is Humble Hands Health Care Services. The company is a family-owned business that offers medical transportation to clients.

Boston 25 crews spotted one of the SUV’s side doors lying in the grass a short distance away from the crash.

The investigation into the crash is ongoing and the results will determine if criminal charges are warranted.
