Police, FBI searching wooded area in Methuen as part of ongoing investigation

METHUEN, Mass. — Investigators have now spent two days searching a wooded area off Pleasant Valley and Milk Streets in Methuen.

Sources tell Boston 25 News this search is related to a man who went missing from Manchester, New Hampshire a couple months ago.

“That area there is just kind of creepy, it is just creepy,” said Celina Willard, who lives nearby. “Very surprised to see that because Methuen’s not that type of area, things have changed a lot.”

Officers combed the area with K9′s while digging through mounds of dirt just behind a UHaul center Wednesday.

Neighbors were startled to see such a massive search underway in this area, which is also near a baseball park.

“It’s all wooded area, I always felt funny walking around there, even with her, good place to get robbed I don’t know,” said Joe Willard.

The FBI says their Evidence Response Team is on the ground there as part of an ongoing investigation, but there’s no danger to the public.

Methuen police say this is all part of a cross-border operation involving multiple agencies from both Massachusetts and New Hampshire, but police still won’t give details as to what they’re looking for.

“If something were to happen down there I’m not surprised because it’s kind of scary,” said Willard.
