MALDEN, Mass. — The pedestrian killed in a Monday crash in Malden has been identified as 86-year-old Athena Hartwell of Malden, according to a release from the Middlesex County District Attorney’s Office.

That incident happened on Hunting Street in the city, near a local Econo Lodge, just after 1:30 p.m. Monday. Hartwell was walking on the sidewalk near Salem Street when she was hit by a Toyota RAV4 driven by a 28-year-old Malden man. She was pronounced dead at the scene.
The car had been at Garcia’s Auto Repair across the street when it crashed through the door of the shop and traveled across the street, hitting Hartwell.
The driver, whose name has not been released, was cited for the operation of a motor vehicle with a suspended license. He will appear in court at a later date not yet determined.
The Middlesex County DA’s Office is investigating the incident along with state and local police.
