BOSTON — If you were dreaming of a drop in gas prices overnight, sleep in.
AAA says the average price of regular gas in Massachusetts jumped four cents since Monday - posting another record on Tuesday.
The average cost of regular unleaded is now $4.43. That’s up 31 cents from a month ago, and $1.57 higher than this time last May. Nationally, prices are a bit lower than here at home, coming in at $4.37.
“Work from home if you can, carpool,” said Mary Maguire of AAA New England. “Make sure you are shopping the low end of the price range so you identify the most competitively priced retailers and give them your business.”
Diesel is even more crushing. The average price of diesel fuel in Massachusetts is now a whopping $6.29.
“Diesel fuel is the fuel that propels the nation, all of the goods that we buy for the most part are trucked to us are shipped across the nation by truck and most trucks are powered by diesel fuel,” said Maguire.
AAA expects the cost to affect summer travel, with Memorial Day weekend less than three weeks away.
