BOSTON — The MBTA announced on Friday tweaks to their Blue Line schedule ahead of planned track work that will shut down evening services for the upcoming week and beyond.
The work will focus on lifting speed restrictions, according to transit officials, and will begin at 8 p.m. from April 24-27 and May 1-4.
Nightly Blue Line weekday service will be replaced with shuttle buses between Government Center and Wonderland Stations, and the schedules will work to match the frequency of previous trains, the MBTA says. However, the buses will not service Bowdoin Station.
Officials say these service changes will allow crews to replace nearly 2,000 feet of rail, over 450 ties, and perform more than 3,000 feet of tamping.
The initial plan was to begin maintenance at 7 p.m. but pushback from public stakeholder groups moved the work time back an hour to better service customers.
This work is in preparation for the Blue Line to handle more customers during the two-month closure of the Sumner Tunnel over the summer. Additional work at other Blue Line locations will be announced, including during non-revenue hours.
