Massachusetts man wanted in child rape case arrested in Alaska

Mass. — A man wanted in Massachusetts on charges involving the alleged rape of a child has been arrested in Alaska, officials said Monday.

John R. Monge was arrested on August 14 at his home in Anchorage by U.S. Marshals.

He is expected to be returned to Massachusetts to face the charges.

According to court records, the case involves an alleged incident that happened in Bristol County in August 2024. Authorities said Monge allegedly traveled from Alaska to Massachusetts and had sexual contact with a child he had met online.

The alleged victim reported the incident to law enforcement in July 2026. An arrest warrant was issued July 31.

“The allegations in this case are deeply disturbing. No child should ever be subjected to the horrific conduct alleged in this case, and our thoughts and prayers are with the victim and their family. I am extremely thankful that this fugitive is now in custody and off the streets,” said Dennis Matulewicz, head of the U.S. Marshals Service for the District of Massachusetts.

Monge is charged with rape of a child, enticing a child under 16, and indecent assault and battery on a person 14 or older.

The U.S. Marshals Service said investigators determined Monge was living in Alaska and worked with authorities there to find him.

Monge remains in custody as he awaits his return to Massachusetts.

Authorities did not identify the Massachusetts police department involved in the case to protect the victim.
