Celtics lose Game 5 to the Warriors 104-94

SAN FRANCISCO — The Celtics came out flat in Game 5 and squandered their opportunity to get one win closer to an NBA title. Boston will now have to claw their way back from a 3-2 hole against the Finals-tested Golden State Warriors.

Game 6 is Thursday night in Boston.

11:35 p.m. Celtics lose to the Warriors 104-94.

11:27 p.m. Draymond Green becomes the first player to foul out three times in the Finals since 2000.

11:25 p.m. With three minutes left in the game, Boston is down by 10.

11:24 p.m. Wiggins having himself a game, extending Golden State’s lead to 13. Tatum responds by draining a three.

11:20 p.m. Tatum misses both free throws. Warriors answer with two more from Curry.

11:18 p.m. Golden State stretches the lead to 11. Warriors up 89-78.

11:08 p.m. Marcus Smart draws a technical, followed by a dubious offensive foul.

11:04 p.m. Klay Thompson drills a three to give the Warriors an eight-point lead. Marcus Smart not happy about a no-call.

11:02 p.m. Golden State has stretched the lead to 5. Warriors up 79-74.

10:56 p.m. An intense third quarter capped by a long buzzer beater from Jordan Poole. Warriors lead by 1.

10:52 p.m. Klay Thompson passes LeBron James for the second-most threes in NBA Finals history.

10:49 p.m. Both teams are finding their groove from downtown. Boston still leading 66-64.

10:47 p.m. Blocked from behind! Grant Williams takes it away from Curry mid-shot.

10:44 p.m. Celtics take their first lead of the night. Boston up 61-57.

10:40 p.m. Celtics tie the game! After missing their first 12, Boston has sank seven straight threes.

10:30 p.m. It’s raining threes! Celtics are locked in from downtown after starting the game 0-12. Boston cuts the lead to 2.

10:29 p.m. Celtics start the second half strong, cutting the lead down to 5. Golden State up 51-46.

10:10 p.m. After closing the gap, the Celtics let the end of the half get away from them. Golden State leads 51-39.

10:05 p.m. Andrew Wiggins has a game-high 14 points.


9:57 p.m. Jayson Tatum drills the Celtics’ first three of the game. Warriors up 37-29.

9:55 p.m. Both teams having trouble from downtown. Celtics 0-12, Warriors 3-15.

9:51 p.m. No look! Marcus Smart to Robert Williams for a quick two. Celtics down 6.

9:47 p.m. Celtics cut the lead to 8. Golden State up 32-24.

9:44 p.m. Robert Williams goes down hard in a last-ditch effort to block Draymond Green.

9:43 p.m. Celtics are 0-7 on threes.

9:38 p.m. End of the first quarter. Boston not looking good so far.

9:33 p.m. Celtics chipping away. Golden State leads 26-16.

9:29 p.m. Warriors are starting to blow this thing open. Golden State up 22-8.

9:22 p.m. And 1! Jaylen Brown draws the foul but fails to capitalize on the free throw.

9:20 p.m. Steph Curry sinks the first three of the game to give the Warriors a 17-6 lead.

9:18 p.m. The shots just aren’t landing. Warriors lead 14-6.

9:12 p.m. Head on a swivel! Draymond Green takes a dive into some fans sitting courtside. Warriors up 10-4.

9:08 p.m. The Warriors strike first. Boston fails to answer. Golden State takes a 2-0 lead.
