Lindsay Clancy trial: Jury to visit Duxbury home where prosecutors say 3 children were killed

DUXBURY, Mass. — Jurors in the Lindsay Clancy murder trial are expected to leave the courtroom Friday and visit the Duxbury home where prosecutors say Clancy killed her three young children before attempting to take her own life.

The jury view comes after three days of emotional testimony and evidence presentation in Plymouth Superior Court, where prosecutors and defense attorneys have laid out competing narratives surrounding the January 2023 deaths of 5-year-old Cora, 3-year-old Dawson, and 8-month-old Callan.

So far, jurors have been shown photographs of the exterior and interior of the family’s former home, including images of the second-floor window prosecutors say Clancy jumped from following the killings. They have also viewed photographs and 3D renderings of the basement, where Patrick Clancy discovered the children.

Friday’s visit will give jurors an opportunity to see the home firsthand and better understand its layout and the physical locations referenced throughout testimony.

Boston criminal defense attorney Elyse Hershon said jury views are designed to help jurors observe a scene for themselves, but strict rules limit interactions and commentary during the visit.

“Neither lawyer is allowed to say, ‘This is where she jumped out the window,’” Hershon explained. “They are allowed to point things out for the jurors to observe, but they are not allowed to communicate information beyond directing attention to areas they want jurors to notice.”

The jury visit follows testimony Thursday from first responders who were called to the Clancy home after Patrick Clancy returned from running errands and found the children unresponsive.

Witnesses described desperate efforts to save the children. According to testimony, baby Callan was found with a faint pulse and rushed to a hospital. Cora and Dawson were later pronounced dead, while Callan died days later.

Prosecutors allege Lindsay Clancy strangled each child with exercise bands after sending her husband out to pick up takeout and medication. They say she then jumped from a second-floor window in what they describe as an attempted suicide.

The jury view could also extend beyond the family home. Jurors may visit the nearby CVS and restaurant Patrick Clancy stopped at while he was away from the house. Such a visit could provide jurors with a clearer understanding of the timeline and distances involved as prosecutors continue presenting their case.

The trial is expected to resume in court following the jury view.
