‘I found other neighbor’s belongings in my car’: Methuen residents puzzled over car robbery spree

METHUEN, Mass — “This white one right here. The black one right over there, and my parent’s car,” said Andrea Mazzone as she pointed to cars. Three of the family’s cars targeted by criminals. “It kind of spooked me,” said Mazzone.

They made the discovery when they woke up Saturday morning.

“They broke the little push button, said Michelle Mazzone. The thieves tried to steal her Toyota. “It adds a little sense of fear,” she added.

Methuen police say they received 15 reports of cars broken into on Bridal Path Lane and Sevoian Drive. All the cars were unlocked. The thieves managed to steal one car. Officers released a photo of two men who they say are directly involved.

“Everybody’s on track and see what is going on,” said Colleen Madden, resident. The neighborhood has a group chat to keep everyone informed and soon they realized there was an offbeat pattern. “They don’t really take anything. They just make a mess and then drop it in the next one’s yard,” said Madden.

One neighbor found pita bread on his car. Another spotted Andrea Mazzone’s sister’s wallet in the front yard. “The police found them over there kind of thrown around everywhere. She is missing two random gift cards though,” said Andrea Mazzone. “I found other neighbor’s belongings in my car,” said Michelle Mazzone.

They don’t know what to make of the calling cards, but it is unsettling. Not only is the Mazzone family making sure their cars are all locked, they are adding a camera and motion-activated lights to their yard.

“It brings my attention like there’s things that can happen anywhere even when you don’t expect them to happen,” said Andrea Mazzone.

The car that was stolen was a Volkswagen Jetta. The family that owns that car said it had a tracking device on it and police found it in Lawrence. The car is now in the shop for brake work.
