BROCKTON, Mass. — A Gloucester man charged with killing a fellow inmate at the Massachusetts Treatment Center in Bridgewater was ordered held without bail during his arraignment Wednesday.
Michael Robinson, 42, of Gloucester, who is accused of fatally beating fellow inmate Scott Wonoski, 43, of Worcester, pleaded not guilty to the charges of murder and assault and battery with a deadly weapon, shod foot, during his arraignment in Brockton District Court, Plymouth County District Attorney Tim Cruz said.
Around 10:40 p.m. Tuesday night, corrections officers at the Bridgewater treatment center responded to a report of an altercation in a facility bathroom.
When officers came to the bathroom, they found Wonoski unresponsive and bleeding, Cruz said. Wonoski was treated at the scene and then sent by ambulance to Good Samaritan Medical Center in Brockton, where he was pronounced dead at 1:03 a.m.
Video surveillance from the facility captured the incident, and shows Robinson allegedly physically assault Wonoski and then leave the bathroom, Cruz said.
An investigation is ongoing by Massachusetts State Police Detectives assigned to Cruz’s office and the Massachusetts Department of Correction.
Robinson is due back in court on May 18.
