Following arrest of former chief of staff, Lawrence mayor appoints new one

LAWRENCE, Mass. — Following the arrest and subsequent firing of his former chief of staff, Lawrence Mayor Brian DePeña appointed a new person to man the helm Monday morning.

William Castro we be his new chief of staff, effective immediately, according to city officials.

Castro, who grew up in Lawrence, was a criminal investigator assigned to the DEA at the Essex County Sheriff’s Department for over 20 years, and received numerous awards for his service.

“With William’s vast leadership experience and a shared vision for our city also for serving as my Chief of Staff and working with this administration to lead our agenda for Lawrence’s future,” Mayor DePeña said.

His former chief of staff, Jhovanny Martes-Rosario, is facing two counts of possession of child pornography. He will be back in court at a later date.
