Elderly woman dies following Westwood house fire, police say

WESTWOOD, Mass. — An elderly woman has died following a house fire in Westwood, according to a release from the town’s chief of police. The fire happened just after 12:00 p.m. Saturday afternoon in the area of Washington Street and Lull Street in the town.

That victim, who was the sole occupant of the home, was pronounced dead at the scene. Her relatives told police that she was 87 years old.

Local police and fire departments are investigating the blaze, along with State Police and the State Fire Marshall’s Office. Preliminary investigation shows the fire started in the kitchen while the victim was cooking.
