DA: 19-year-old man stabbed, critically injured inside Auburn Mall, suspect being sought

AUBURN, Mass. — Police are asking witnesses to come forward with any information or video after a 19-year-old man was stabbed and critically injured inside the Auburn Mall on Friday night.

And the stabbing suspect was being sought by law enforcement late Friday night, Worcester County District Attorney Joseph Early said during a briefing to reporters Friday night.

“We’re very early in the stages of the investigation,” Early said.

Police and fire received multiple 911 calls reporting a stabbing at the Auburn Mall around 6:11 p.m.

When emergency responders arrived, they found one person with multiple stab wounds, said Auburn Police Chief Andrew Sluckis Jr.

The victim, who suffered life-threatening injuries, was taken to UMass Memorial Medical Center in Worcester, where he was in critical condition on Friday night, officials said.

Witnesses told Boston 25 News that they saw two males fighting and one pulled out a knife from his hip and stabbed the victim, leaving a trail of blood inside the food court.

Shoppers were forced to go home and the mall was closed, witnesses said.

Friday’s stabbing at the Auburn Mall occurred one week after a shooting inside the South Shore Plaza in Braintree injured a 15-year-old girl. Two men were arrested following that incident.

Both malls are managed by Simon Property Group.

Investigators were still at the crime scene late Friday night.

Anyone with cell phone footage or dash cam video that could assist in the investigation is asked call Auburn Police at (508) 832-7777.
