Boston police arrest 17-year-old after recovering loaded firearm in Mattapan

BOSTON — A 17-year-old Dorchester teen is facing multiple firearm charges after Boston police say officers recovered a loaded handgun during a stop in Mattapan on Saturday evening.

According to police, officers were patrolling the area of Middleton Street and Norfolk Street around 6 PM when they noticed two juveniles walking toward them near Theodore Street.

Officers said they were familiar with both individuals from previous interactions, but noticed one of the teens, a 17-year-old male, was acting differently and walking awkwardly

As officers attempted to speak with the pair, the 17-year-old allegedly ran down Marden Avenue.

Police said officers observed the teen remove an object from his waistband and throw it into the backyard of a nearby residence while fleeing.

Additional officers were able to stop the juvenile on Theodore Street.

Investigators then searched the area and recovered a firearm from behind the residence. Police identified the weapon as a Polymer80 semi-automatic 9mm pistol loaded with 15 rounds, including one round in the chamber.

District detectives responded to process the firearm.
