BOURNE, Mass. — In an attempt to alleviate traffic congestion near one of Cape Cod’s busiest bridges, officials instituted new road restrictions Friday morning.
Town officials say the Sagamore Bridge construction has caused severe traffic headaches for commuters, specifically in the area of Adams Street. Because of this, both Adams Street and Westdale Park were closed to public travel with access only allowed to area residents.
Police say all traffic on Sandwich Road attempting to go over the Sagamore Bridge was diverted to the signalized intersection at Ben Abbey Road. Officers were on the scene all morning to assist.
“While this modification will not eliminate traffic related to the construction, we anticipate it should assist with some of the issues observed in the area,” Bourne Police wrote in a statement. “We, along with MassDOT and the US Army Corps, will continue to monitor the situation. Thank you for your patience as this construction project reaches its conclusion.”
