5-year-old boy found ‘unresponsive’ at a pond in Sandwich

SANDWICH, Mass. — A boy who was reported missing at a pond in Sandwich was found under the water and not breathing on Sunday evening.

It happened at Snake Pond Beach in the Forestdale section of Sandwich.

The 5-year-old was unresponsive and was rushed to Falmouth Hospital for treatment.

The first 911 call came in at around 7:00 p.m. according to the Sandwich Police Department.

Within moments of that first call, the boy was found under the water and was not breathing, said police.

“Sandwich Police and Fire responded to the scene, where bystanders were performing CPR,” said Sandwich Police. “Officers and Paramedics rendered aid to the 5-year-old boy who was at the beach with a parent.”

“This incident is under investigation with the assistance of the Massachusetts State Police and Barnstable County Sheriff’s Office,” said police. “No foul play is suspected.”

Snake Pond is open only to residents of Sandwich. The pond is located on Snake Pond Road.
