LAWRENCE, Mass. — A local mother says a cardboard box and small tool were all that stood between her family and a stray bullet.
The woman didn’t want to be identified for her safety, but she tells Boston 25 News reporter Kerry Kavanaugh her family was heading to bed Sunday night when it happened.
The bullet passed through a window at the Lawrence housing development then got lodged in a box containing a sander that had been left on the window sill.
“I always my house is cluttered, but this was the one thing that saved it,” she said. “It ricocheted back and knocked it off the window sill.”
The mom said everything was relatively quiet around the housing development on Bernard Avenue until gun shots rang out, waking her 6-year-old daughter.
“She said ‘Mommy, Daddy I’m, scared. I’m scared. Can I come into the bed with you?’” the mother said. “We had to tell her no because we didn’t want her to move.”
After calling Lawrence police about what happened, officers responded and took the bullet for examination, she told Boston 25's Kavanaugh.
“They don’t care. They don’t have the heart to care. I could plead, I could do whatever I want, they don’t have the heart,” she said.
Making matters worse, the mother told Boston 25 News there were more gunshots Monday night as they were sleeping.
Boston 25 News reached out to the Lawrence Police Department for updates about the investigation but officers have not returned our call.
