Hoverboard makers could soon get hit with recalls if they don't get their act together. That's the warning the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission issued to manufacturers, importers and retailers in a letter dated Feb. 18.
The letter warned if safety standards aren't met, the agency will issue recalls.
The boards have made headlines for months with news that some models prone to catching fire and exploding.
Hoverboards have been banned in some capacity from multiple universities. Several airlines have also banned the boards on flights because of their batteries.
