On heels of CDC announcement, Stonehill College urges students abroad in Italy to come home

EASTON, Mass. — Stonehill College has asked that its students studying in Italy return to the United States as concern over coronavirus grows.

According to a statement from the college’s director of communications and media relations, Stonehill College has reached out to two dozen students studying in the country in Florence and Rome.

“The health and safety of our students is the College’s highest priority," the statement reads. “We are asking the returning students to remain off campus for a minimum of two weeks in compliance with the CDC’s recommended self-imposed quarantine.”

Despite asking students to quarantine themselves for two weeks if and when they return to the United States from Italy, Stonehill College maintains that there are no cases of coronavirus at any of their campuses.

“At this time, there are no reported coronavirus cases in the region where our students are studying," the college said in their statement. “There are no cases of coronavirus infection at any of our academic campuses around the world, including Italy.”

One parent shared with Boston 25 News an email that Stonehill College sent to their school community. In that email, the college recommended that students abroad in Italy return to the U.S. within 48 hours.
