Staged reopening frustrating some business owners as Phase 3 begins Monday

SAUGUS, Mass. — Businesses included in Phase 3 can reopen Monday, but some business owners who thought they would be able to open their doors will have a wait a little longer.

Phase 3 is divided into Step 1 and 2; activities with greater potential for contact will have to stay closed. Roller skating rinks, laser tag, trampolines and obstacle courses are part of that category.

“I would have thought I would have been up in the front with roller skating, there wouldn’t be much physical contact, wouldn’t be much different than gym,” said Jerry Breen, the owner of RollerWorld.

Breen prepared to open Monday. He’s been cleaning, separating tables and installed a clear fiberglass partition in the snack bar to follow proper safety guidelines.

“I felt it would be a plus for us, I didn’t think they would be taking us and putting us on the back burner after doing all that work,” he said.

Breen said he’s had their air filters cleaned and installed all automatic sinks and soap dispensers. Breen added that he’s able to operate the on-site pro shop but customers must pre-order their items and make appointments to come pick them up.
