ROXBURY, Mass. — The BASE partnered with Boston Medical Center is hosting a pop-up vaccination clinic Saturday.
The pop-up clinic ran from 10 a.m. – 2 p.m. and offered the Pfizer, Johnson and Johnson, and Moderna vaccines. People five years and older could receive their first or second dose or a booster shot.
The clinic was open to BASE student-athletes, their families, and the greater Roxbury community. Multilingual medical staff were available to answer questions and offer advice.
“We know that the numbers for children are low. We know there’s a lot of barriers and misinformation that is out there about the vaccine that causes them not to get vaccinated,” said Lori DiPina, Boston Site Director of the BASE. “That’s why we wanted to partner with Boston Medical Center,” DiPina said of the BASE’s 1,000 student-athletes about half are unvaccinated.
“Our families are telling us they don’t have that personal connection to get the right information to decide if the vaccine is right for their child, even right down to the different vaccines like should they get the Pfizer, Moderna, the J&J,” DiPina said. “They just don’t know, and that’s why we wanted to have that here today so that maybe they can come and get the right information and hopefully get vaccinated today.”
The BASE is hosting another vaccine clinic in three weeks on Feb. 27.
