Potential domestic travel ban could put Florida plans on ice for New Englanders

BOSTON — According to published reports, the Biden Administration is considering implementing a domestic travel ban that would include Florida and other popular travel destinations.

The Tribune News Service is reporting that two un-named federal authorities say the new Biden Administration is considering a domestic travel ban as a strategy against new strains of COVID-19.

At a news conference, Florida Governor Ron DeSantis blasted the idea.

“It would be unconstitutional. It would be unwise, and it would be unjust,” DeSantis said. “We will oppose it 100 percent. It would not be based on science, it would purely be a political attack against the people of Florida.”

Florida is the number one destination currently searched on the Travelzoo website.

Senior Editor Gabe Saglie advised New England travelers with immediate Florida travel plans should be Ok. But travelers planning trips for later in the year should buy trip insurance, and keep an eye on the headlines.

“There’s enough safety net out there with the relaxed restrictions for airlines and hotels, I would not hesitate to book travel to these destinations,” Saglie said.

According to reports plans for a domestic travel ban are not imminent.
