WORCESTER, Mass. — It’s a disheartening development for the family of a Worcester mother of two who vanished without a trace more than five years ago.
The man who they believe knows something about Sabrina Hatheway’s disappearance in December of 2014 is now a free man.
Kevin Crozier has never been charged in Sabrina’s disappearance. However, he was sent to prison for an intentionally set fire at the home the couple had been living in.
The house on Dixfield Road in Worcester, belonging to Crozier’s grandmother, went up in flames on January 1, 2015 – two weeks after Sabrina was last seen.
As Boston 25 News Reporter Bob Ward has been following for years in New England’s Unsolved, Sabrina’s body was never found.
To this day, investigators haven’t located any trace of the mother of two.
“He’s the last person she was with. I feel like…with him being released, I’m not going to get my closure. It gives him the opportunity to take off again,” said Lisa Hatheway, Sabrina’s aunt.
Crozier was arrested in Florida, extradited to Massachusetts and convicted of conspiracy to commit arson and arson of a dwelling.
He was sentenced to six years in prison, but on Wednesday, he was released from MCI-Shirley months early.
A Department of Pubic Health spokesman told Boston 25 News Crozier was eligible for mandatory release to supervision, which did not require a parole hearing.
“I feel like they’ve let me down,” said aunt Lisa Hatheway. “This is not what you want to hear. It’s like he’s getting away with something.”
Boston 25 News’ efforts to get in touch with Crozier on Thursday were unsuccessful. He has previously denied any involvement in Sabrina’s disappearance.
Worcester Police said their investigation remains open and active.
In a tragic unrelated twist, Sabrina’s mother, Brenda, was killed in an act of domestic violence. The Hatheway family learned of Crozier’s release on the three year anniversary of Brenda’s murder.
