New England's Unsolved: The disappearance of Sabrina Hatheway

WORCESTER, Mass. — The place where 23-year-old Sabrina Hatheway was last seen alive is now an overgrown house lot at 11 Dixfield Rd. in Worcester.

Hatheway vanished just before Christmas 2014 and today her grief-stricken family is still trying to find her.

"We just want our baby to be found. We want closure. We want to know what is going on," Lisa Hatheway, Sabrina's aunt, recently told Boston 25 News Reporter Bob Ward.

At the time of her disappearance on Dec. 20, 2014, Sabrina was in a relationship with 28-year-old Kevin Crozier.

Crozier's grandmother owned the house on Dixfield Road. He is in jail awaiting trial, accused of hiring two men to burn down his grandmother's house.

Sabrina's relationship with Crozier was volatile, her aunt tells Boston 25 News.

"She loved him. But he was bad for her. He wasn't somebody she should have been with," she said.

Sabrina was last seen with Crozier getting dropped off at the Dixfield Road house after a party.

Days later, on New Year’s Day 2015, a fire destroyed the home.

The District Attorney believes it was arson.

According to a Grand Jury court filing New England's Unsolved obtained, investigators found, "The fire left a distinctive burn pattern that led down a hallway, into a shared bedroom, and onto the bed."

Sabrina Hatheway's mother, Brenda Hatheway, filed a missing person’s report with Worcester Police after there was no sign of her daughter.

Brenda told Boston 25 News she felt Crozier was responsible.

"I believe he burned the house down to cover up whatever he did to her," she said.

According to a court document obtained by Boston 25 News, a witness described Crozier's relationship with Sabrina as "not the healthiest. He was very abusive towards Sabrina. He hit her a few times."

New England's Unsolved could not reach Crozier for comment. But he issued a statement to GoLocalWorcester.com denying any abuse.

"Sabrina and I were never in an abusive relationship. It was quite the contrary. We were in a loving, caring, committed relationship. We almost never fought and me and Sabrina are like best friends. The things that are being said are so far from the truth its crazy," Crozier told the website.

The statement also includes Crozier's version of events of what happened the night Sabrina disappeared.

Crozier said, after the party, "We got dropped off at my house and we went in. I got sick from the drinking. Sabrina got me a glass of water.  I lied down and passed out. I woke up in the morning and, once again, my girlfriend had taken off. "

Lisa Hatheway doesn't believe the statement --"He's a liar. He knows something."

Private investigator Thomas Shamshak tells Boston 25 News he is also skeptical.

"It's a convenient, self-serving explanation for her disappearance," Shamshak said.

In another tragic twist to this case Brenda Hatheway, Sabrina's mother, died on April 30, 2017. Brenda's boyfriend is facing charges related to her death.

With Brenda's death and Sabrina's disappearance, the last three years have been devastating for the Hatheway family.

Lisa Hatheway is determined to find her niece.

"I just got to find her. I want answers," Lisa Hatheway told New England's Unsolved. "It would mean the world to me, to get my niece, to know where she is at, either bones or alive, bring her home."

If you know anything about what happened to Sabrina Hatheway and where she is right now, you are urged to contact Worcester Police.
