BOSTON — Boston University students credit robots on campus for allowing them to salvage a slice of the college experience.
BU is using eight robots to process thousands of coronavirus tests daily with next day results.
The robots, being used in an on campus lab, have produced more than 20,200 results since July 27th.
Boston 25 News checked in with incoming freshmen about their first week on campus with the streamlined testing protocol.
“I know everyone around me has got a negative test within 72 hours at least,” said freshman Kristina Nicolas of West Greenwich, RI. “I can at least hang out with new friends at a distance.”
Students are required to swab themselves at four collection centers on BU’s campus every three days.
“It takes about five minutes. I got my test results in only 13 hours,” said freshman Aidan White of Phoenixville, Pennsylvania. “Being here at BU, I’m 100 percent confident that I’m safe from the coronavirus.”
Students told Boston 25 they believe the routine testing and the next day results have been holding everyone accountable.
“You need to be very aware of what you do on campus,” said freshman Alan Bunyatov of New York City. “Because being on campus is still going to be a risk, it doesn’t feel obtrusive.”
Only 36 of the tests taken so far have come back positive.
Boston University is posting the results daily on a data dashboard, which you can access here.
