Free Thanksgiving meals offered to those in need for 26th year at Lynn deli

LYNN, Mass. — A Lynn restaurant owner is giving out over 1,000 meals on Thanksgiving Day alone. Hours after a group of volunteers worked through the night to prepare for the free holiday feast, Brothers Deli in Lynn became one of the busiest places in the state this Thanksgiving.

Hundreds of turkeys have been going through Brother's Deli in Lynn as free meals are offered to those in need. A warm greeting to go along with a hot plate of food that includes turkey and all of the famous fixings.

"The squash with it, the potatoes, the vegetables, the bread and the cranberry sauce," said George Markos, the owner of Brothers Deli.

Free meals to those who pass through the doors on Thanksgiving at Brothers Deli, a labor of love 26 years and counting for Markos, his staff and volunteers.

"Just a very moving experience, and we'd rather spend it here than at home," said Carol Campbell, who is in her sixth year of volunteering there with her daughter, Cathleen, and several other relatives.

Erin Labate caught our eye because of the tears in hers. An especially tough year in her life.

"I lost my family, I lost my relationship, I lost my home," she said. "I'm homeless right now."

She's simply thankful for Brothers for doing this, yet again.

"These people, they're so amazing because without people like this a lot of us wouldn't have food, we wouldn't have a place to go," she said.

Volunteers say the event gets busier every year and that they are planning on doing another dinner coming up in December.
