Charlestown liquor store workers wrestle gun from armed robber

BOSTON (MyFoxBoston.com) -- A man who allegedly robbed a convenience store at gunpoint and then moved on to a liquor store to repeat the same crime was arrested after liquor store workers wrestled the gun from the suspect.

Just before 6 p.m. Saturday, officers responded to the Tedeschi Food Shops convenience store location at 140 Main St. in Charlestown after receiving a report of an armed robbery there. When they arrived, people in the store directed the officers to a nearby liquor store, where the suspect and others were involved in an altercation at the counter.

The employee behind the counter told police that the suspect walked up to her, took out a black handgun and pointed it in her face. The woman then grabbed the weapon, struggling with the suspect to take it from him. She called to other employees in the liquor store for help, and together they successfully took the firearm, police said.

Police found that the gun was a .117 caliber BB gun. The suspect, 49-year-old Raymond Santos, of Boston, also had a black plastic bag with cash inside.

Officers arrested Santos and charged him with armed robbery, assault by means of a dangerous weapon and armed assault with intent to rob.
