Brockton man sentenced to life in prison for 2011 killing

DEDHAM, Mass. (AP) - A Brockton man has been sentenced to life in prison in connection with a 2011 drug-related shooting.

A Norfolk Superior Court jury on Monday found 21-year-old Nathan Lugo guilty of second degree murder and other charges in the killing of 21-year-old Kyle McManus on November 26, 2011. The charge carries a mandatory life sentence with the possibility of parole after 15 years. The jury deliberated for two days.

Prosecutors say Lugo and three others planned to steal $1,200 worth of marijuana from McManus when Lugo shot and killed McManus in front of his Randolph home following a struggle.

On Monday, one of Lugo's co-defendants, Allison Deshowitz, changed her plea to guilty of manslaughter, robbery and other charges. She was sentenced to 12 years in prison. Two other defendants still face charges.
