Boston Globe: Major discrepancies between Boston fire stations

BOSTON (MyFoxBoston.com) – A Boston Globe investigation shows a huge discrepancy between some fire stations in the city of Boston.

The report says the four busiest firehouses in the city are in Roxbury and the Back Bay. They make 10 times as many runs as the slowest houses in Brighton, Dorchester and the Readville section of Hyde Park.

The newspaper says only 8 percent of the fire department's 72,000 incidents in 2012 were actual fires. Sixty percent of their calls are medical-related.

The department, which has not made any layoffs in 30 years, employs 1,400 firefighters with a budget of $185 million.
