Barnstable officer crashes into vehicle while respoding to call

BARNSTABLE, Mass. — A Barnstable police officer was hospitalized after crashing his cruiser while responding to reports of a shooting.

The incident occurred along Route 28 in Centerville Wednesday night.

Police said the officer was responding to reports of shots fired when he collided with another car.

Firefighters had to rip the roof off the other vehicle to get the driver out.

Both the officer and other driver are expected to fully recover.
