Arrest made in connection with death of UMass student, drug informant

(MyFoxBoston.com) -- In the fall of 2012, when Eric Sinacori was caught selling LSD tabs and molly pills from his dorm room, police offered him a deal. And via Skype, from her home in New Jersey, Eric's mom Francesca Sinacori says he took it.

"They told him there would be no charges against him. His parents wouldn't find out, and he wouldn't lose his scholarship. That's enough to coerce any kid, to think they have to pay back $200,000 back from a scholarship," she said.

In exchange, the 18-year-old sophomore became a confidential informant, initiating drug buys for police. He did it for 10 months and during that time his mom says his cover was blown. And word spread on campus that he was a narc.

"They used him to him to do a job they were trained for and it just should have never happened," Francesca said.

On parents weekend in October of 2013, Eric was found dead in an off-campus apartment from a heroin overdose. Francesca says she had no idea her son had been a confidential informant. She says she didn't even know he was involved with drugs.

Now nearly two years later, 27-year-old Jess Carrillo from Derry, N.H. has been arrested for involuntary manslaughter. Police tell FOX25 the former UMass grad student sold Eric the heroin that lead to his death. The arrest was some comfort for a mom who has known so little for so long.

“We are fully supportive of the district attorney’s work to pursue justice in this tragic case,” said Ed Blaguszewski, a spokesman for UMass Amherst, in a statement. “Jesse Carrillo is not a student at the University of Massachusetts Amherst, and he has been prohibited from being on university property since October 2014.”
